Answer the following question with two references and respond to the two post below with references:Consider the unique features of the range of available qualitative research methodologies. What advantages do these afford the health science researcher.Response 1:Qualitative research allows the Health Science researcher to evaluate more than just “the numbers.” This method of research, while controversial in some research circles, affords the development of a fuller picture of an issue under study. For example, a study of a disease could have some ethnographic research incorporated into the study. Ethnography is an “approach to qualitative research that comes largely from the field of Anthropology. The emphasis in ethnography is on studying a phenomenon in the context of its culture” (Trochim, Donnelly, & Arora, 2016). This would be a prime example of attempting to explain if there is a sociological component in disease transmission. One part of many studies in Health Sciences is the Case Study. The Case Study is “an intense study of a specific individual, event, organization, or specific context.” (Trochim et al., 2016) Trochim also notes there is no one single way to carry out a Case Study. Combinations of unstructured interviews, direct observations, and collection of quantitative data can be utilized simultaneously for the aggregation of study data. Qualitative data consists of non-numeric data usual in the form of responses from study participants and it is up to the researcher to evaluate and find common themes in the data to establish the reality from the point of view of participants. In contrast to a traditional quantitative study, where one outcome is sought, the qualitative researcher acknowledges the fact that multiple realities can exist and the goal of the study at hand is to reveal the reality of the participants involved in the study. However, qualitative data can not for the basis for most outcome reporting studies in Health Sciences and for that reason additional quantitative date may be necessary. For this reason, a mixed method approach is sometimes warranted to blend the quantitative portion of data with some statistically relevant quantitative data.Data collection for the qualitative portion of a mixed methods research study can take many forms. Trochim describes the methodologies of collecting qualitative data as participant observation, direct observation, unstructured interviewing, case studies, focus groups and unobtrusive methods (Trochim et al., 2016). In addition to the data collection strategy, the overall scope of the study should be based in one of the accepted qualitative traditions. A qualitative tradition “describes, either explicitly or implicitly, the purpose of the qualitative research, the role of the researcher(s), the stages of research, and the method of data analysis” (Trochim et al., 2016).ReferencesTrochim, W. M., Donnelly, J. P., & Arora, K. (2016). Research Methods: The Essential Knowledge Base (2nd ed.). Dehli: Cengage Learning.Response 2:Qualitative methods are being utilized now more than ever by health science researchers because social issues lend themselves toward keen analysis, for example, when problems of concern are intricate, have factors or ideas that are not effectively estimated, or include tuning in to populations who have generally been censored. (Creswell, 2013) recommends qualitative research is favored when health science researchers try to share separate stories, write in an artistic, adaptable style, comprehend the specific situation or setting of problems. Additionally Creswell has suggested that qualitative research is preferred when researchers seek to clarify components or connections in causal theories, create new theories, and when customary quantitative factual research does not fit the current dilemma. Customarily, current qualitative literature present students with five methodologies for descriptive analysis: “narrative, phenomenological, grounded theory, case study, and ethnography” (Colorafi & Evans, 2016).However, Sandelowski contends that there is no exhaustive depiction of qualitative portrayal as an unmistakable strategy for equivalent positioning remaining with other qualitative techniques, albeit that it is one of the most employed scientific concepts in the practice developments (Sandelowski, 2000). Qualitative descriptive methods is particularly manageable to health research because it gives truthful feedback to inquiries regarding how individuals feel about a specific space, the logic they have for utilizing certain aspects of the space, who is utilizing specific services or elements of a space, and the components that encourage or prohibit use.REFERENCES:Colorafi, K.
