Kindly Running Head: HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEMHuman Respiratory SystemNameInstitutionDate1HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM2The human respiratory system is responsible for in-take and out-take gaseous exchange. Theyare part of body organs and tissue that facilitates the process of taking in oxygens and breathing outcarbon dioxide. The respiratory systems’ key role is enabling talking and smelling, transportation ofoxygen to other body parts, removal of waste gases like carbon dioxide, inhaling of air from theenvironment and converting it to the right humidity, and protection of the airways from harmfulsubstances. The respiratory systems’ key organs are the nose, mouth, sinuses, pharynx, trachea, bronchial tubes, and lungs. The mouth and the nose help in pulmonary ventilation, which involves taking in air from theenvironment to the body and from the body to the environment. The sinuses are the hollow partsbetween the head bones that help in the regulation of the humidity and temperature of the air that aperson inhales. When air is inhaled through the mouth or the nose, and its temperature is controlled, itis taken to the pharynx or the throat, then to the larynx, then to the trachea, and finally to the lungs.During exhilaration, the air moves using the same pathway. The changes to the air pressure and volume in the lungs facilitate the process of pulmonaryventilation. In normal inhalation, the external intercostal muscles and the diaphragm contract, makingthe ribcage become elevated. The increase in lung volume causes a reduction of air pressure, which inturn causes air to rush in to fill the increased volume of the lung. However, during exhalation, the lungscontract and become small, forcing air pressure to rise and exhaled out of the body. The trachea transports air inhaled from the mouth to the lungs through the bronchialtubes, where they divide into small air passages known as the bronchioles. Inside the lungs, the processof exchanging oxygen with carbon dioxide happens in a process called external respiration. The processhappens inside the alveoli, millions of microscopic sacs. Once the air enters the alveoli, it diffuses intopulmonary capillaries, which are sur…
